Business Executives Enhance Life Through Tae Kwon Do

(Las Vegas) CEOs, financial managers, doctors, lawyers and technology executives are among the adult students who have been practicing the art of Tae Kwon Do at the World Tae Kwon Do School in Las Vegas. “I think many business professionals choose Tae Kwon Do because it relieves stress and teaches discipline, values and respect for elders,” said Tae Kwon Do Grand Master Dong Sup Kim, who has achieved a 9th degree black belt in the martial arts form. Unlike a gym, Tae Kwon Do provides a group atmosphere with a director. It is a 3,000-year-old proven system that has gained popularity over the last several years among various age groups. Many of today’s business professionals are turning to Tae Kwon Do for a variety of reasons, including learning how to better focus on physical and inner strength. Mike Marriott, executive vice president of IT Strategies International, said the martial art has improved his health and provided him with new philosophies to live by. “Tae Kwon Do has opened up a new world for me,” said Marriott, who is now a Black Belt in the activity. “It is more than just a sport - it teaches you self-discipline, self-defense, confidence, strength, durability, patience and respect.” What many don’t realize is that Tae Kwon Do is much more than just a physical activity, Marriott said. The main “tenets” of Tae Kwon Do are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. It emphasizes the growth of mind and body in unity with one another. Marriott said the martial art form has become “a necessary fixture in his life,” especially after a busy work schedule that includes overseeing 35 computer consultants who are outsourced to various clients, including the Las Vegas Valley Water District, Clark County and the State of Nevada. Kim said that other forms of martial arts studies are good for the health, but Tae Kwon Do is the only martial art that is an Olympic Sport. It has been an Olympic sport since 1988. “Most people equate an Olympic Gold Medal with success,” Kim said. “So if you want to achieve the ultimate success in a sport, Tae Kwon Do is the martial art of choice for most people, including business professionals.”
